July 16, 2009 -- The Ministry of Children and Youth Services understands that this is a very difficult time for families who have been working with Kids Link International Adoption Agency (also known as Imagine Adoption) now that the agency has entered into bankruptcy proceedings.

While the ministry does not fund Kids Link (Imagine Adoption), it does licence them to provide international adoption services and we are in ongoing contact with BDO Dunwoody, the bankruptcy trustee, to determine how they can best assist families who have been impacted by the agency’s inability to continue operations.

The trustee is considering a written plan submitted by the Board’s lawyer for how to assist families, especially those whose adoptions have been completed or have already been matched with children. The ministry has also contacted the federal government who is liaising with foreign adoption authorities to determine the safety of children who are living in the Kids Link (Imagine Adoption) transition homes in Ethiopia.

BDO Dunwoody will be posting new information including status updates as quickly as possible on their website at: www.bdo.ca/extranets/imagineadoption. Updates will also be highlighted on the ministry’s website as we continue to work hard to assist all families impacted by this situation.
