The Premier's Council on Youth Opportunities is a permanent, advisory body to government. This advisory council has a membership of 25 youth, young professionals and other community leaders from a variety of cultures, communities and backgrounds.
The council gives advice to the Premier of Ontario and the Minister of Children and Youth Services on issues affecting youth, including how the government can improve programs and services for youth. Council members also talk to youth in their home communities to help government initiatives better reflect the needs of all young people across the province.
The MaRS Discovery District delivers the innovative program, Studio Y, through investments from the government. Youth aged 18 to 29, keen on contributing to their communities and building a stronger economy through social innovation, are eligible to apply.
Each year, up to 25 youth representing a range of communities and perspectives from across the province, are selected to participate. The program is eight months of intensive training and mentoring to build and refine their leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurial skills. At the end, participating youth will be able to take leadership in social change in their communities and across Ontario.
Applications for Studio Y cohorts happen on an annual basis. Find out more information on the next cohort.
