Zoey is a three-year-old toddler with big rosy cheeks that light up her face when she smiles.
Zoey has severe brain damage due to a brain injury at one month of age. She has visual impairment related to her brain injury and receives a lot of supportive services to help with her development.
Zoey is attached to her primary caregiver and responds to her with smiles. She likes to cuddle and "chatters" back to others when they chat with her. She appears to enjoy music and children’s television shows.
Zoey takes a special formula by bottle and has a diet of pureed-smooth foods. However, she has not been able to tolerate foods with more texture. If she is unable to take in enough calories by mouth, her feedings are topped up by tube feeding.
At three years of age, she smiles, coos, sits with support, holds a small toy and brings it to her mouth. She has learned a few signs for communication. However, her caregiver relies on Zoey’s body language and facial expressions to interpret her needs.
Zoey needs an adoptive family who will nurture and love her unconditionally. While her adoptive family would have the support of many community professionals involved in helping her, they would be Zoey’s biggest advocate.
