The Ministry of Children and Youth Services has two types of custody and detention centres serving youth. Some are directly operated by the ministry and others are run by community agencies.
Youth Justice Services operates six Youth Centres across Ontario. They provide rehabilitative programming and reintegration services within a secure environment to young persons in conflict with the law.
These secure custody/detention facilities accommodate young people who are ages 12 to 17 (at the time of the offence) and who are being detained or serving sentences.

If successful through the application, testing, and interview process, an applicant may be offered an opportunity to attend a five-week pre-employment training program which is required for employment.
